Hungry to Grow
Our community is a vibrant tapestry of amazing individuals who are deeply committed to the growth and prosperity of our town. Their dedication shines through in their efforts to showcase and support our local businesses, ensuring that Tekamah remains a thriving and welcoming place for all.
A glimpse into our town’s rich history reveals the foundations upon which Tekamah was built. The story began in October 1854, when a claim was staked to establish Tekamah as a town. By March 14, 1855, Tekamah officially became an incorporated city, thanks to an act passed by the first territorial legislature of Nebraska. The early days of Tekamah were closely tied to the formation of Burt County, with Tekamah serving as a central hub around which the surrounding areas revolved for many years.
Today, Tekamah continues to thrive as a community with a strong sense of identity and a forward-looking vision. The City Office, located at 1126 S 13th St., Tekamah, NE 68061, serves as the administrative heart of our city. It houses the office of the city clerk and is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. The city is governed by a mayor and a four-person city council, with council members elected by ward, divided by 13th Street. The city council convenes on the second and fourth Thursday of each month to discuss and make decisions that shape the future of our beloved town.
